"Edwards Coffee" Newspaper Ad Mug
Ads for Edward's coffee could be found in almost any newspaper across the country in 30s, 40s or 50s. And now in the 2020s, one can be found on the side of your morning cup of coffee.
Dwight Edwards Co. was established in Portland. Ore. in 1904 by Dwight Edwards Sr, an importer, roaster, and packer of coffee. In those days, coffee was distributed by horse-drawn wagons. Dwight jr. took over his father's company which had become famous for its rich coffee, which was sold in a vacuum-packed can for the regular grind, or a jar for the instant kind. He would go on to sell Edward's Coffee to a grocery chain that would oneway be known as Safeway, where he accepted a position as part of the deal. Dwight Jr. retired from Safeway 25 years later, having spent 40 years of his life in the coffee business.
Edward's Coffee remains Safeway's premium brand of vacuum-packed coffee today.
